Sharon Drew

Sharon Drew is a practising solicitor and has been a specialist costs consultant since 1999. In November 2024, Sharon was recognised as an Accredited Specialist in Costs Law by the Law Institute of Victoria.

Prior to establishing Blue Ribbon Legal, Sharon attained specialist accreditation in personal injury law and was appointed a District Court arbitrator, she was a member of the Law Society’s 2013 costs committee and has provided expert advice to the Law Society and stakeholders in relation to changes to costs in respect of workers’ compensation and motor accident claims.  Sharon is currently co-author of Lexis Nexis Australian Family Law loose-leaf publication, contributing content on legal costs.

With a keen eye for detail, Sharon excels in all aspects of legal drafting including detailed bills, objections and general advices. Sharon has also given evidence as a costs expert, most notably in the Obeid case on behalf of the parties entitled to costs.

An engaging public speaker, Sharon presents in-house seminars and conferences, including the Australian Lawyers Alliance (ALA) State and National Conferences. Sharon has contributed regularly to the ALA’s Precedent Journal.

Away from the office, Sharon is an avid motorsport fan, enjoys 4WD trips and musical performances.

Gareth Jones

Gareth Jones is a practising solicitor and has specialised in costs since 2012. In November 2024, Gareth was recognised as an Accredited Specialist in Costs Law by the Law Institute of Victoria.

Gareth was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2007, in NSW in 2009 and the Federal Court and High Court of Australia in 2012.  He is experienced in litigation practice and legal costs in both the UK and Australia, including extensive advocacy.

Gareth has acted as sole advocate in costs hearings in the Family Court and High Court of Australia, as well as appearing on a substantial number of costs hearings in the UK – predominantly in the field of clinical negligence.

For the last few years, Gareth worked at a major defendant company in England where he specialised in clinical negligence, matters handling the highly complex and high value cases.  Gareth has successfully transferred these skills to Australia where he has undertaken a number of similar matters.

Gareth brings a common-sense approach to cases that allows for critical analysis of the claim, the likely outcome and assists in early resolution and successful outcomes for his clients.

With Sharon, Gareth has presented in-house CLE seminars and presented at the Australian Lawyers Alliance State Conference.

Gareth is a member of the Law Society’s 2023 fidelity fund management committee.

Gareth enjoys spending time at the beach, practising jujitsu and cycling.
